With student debt so prevalent, young workers are assumed (known) to have loans they’re compelled to pay, making them even more vulnerable on the market.

Of course this market discipline is part of the design of the system. The problem today is less that the discipline exists than that there are fewer hopeful ways to respond to its pressures, i.e. fewer jobs. Well there’s lots of problems, but that’s a big one.
